Uses of TELMACARD-40 TAB

TELMACARD-40 TAB is primarily prescribed for the treatment of high blood pressure and for reducing the risk of cardiovascular complications.

• Hypertension (High Blood Pressure)

  TELMACARD-40 is highly effective in lowering elevated blood pressure, helping to bring it within a healthy range. Side Effects of TELMACARD-40 TAB

How to use TELMACARD-40 TAB

• Adults:

  The usual starting dose is 40mg once daily. The dose may be increased to a maximum of 80mg once daily if necessary, based on the patient's blood pressure response. It can be taken with or without food.

• Children:

  TELMACARD-40 TAB is generally not recommended for use in children and adolescents below 18 years of age due to insufficient data on safety and efficacy. Consult a pediatrician for alternative treatments.

• Elderly:

  No specific dose adjustment is usually required for elderly patients. However, close monitoring of blood pressure and kidney function is advisable, especially in those over 75 years of age.

• Missed Dose:

  If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.

How TELMACARD-40 TAB works

TELMACARD-40 TAB works by specifically blocking the action of angiotensin II, a potent natural substance in the body that causes blood vessels to narrow. Telmisartan, the active ingredient, achieves this by selectively binding to the angiotensin II type 1 (AT1) receptor, preventing angiotensin II from exerting its vasoconstrictive and aldosterone-secreting effects. This blockade leads to vasodilation, meaning the blood vessels relax and widen, which in turn lowers blood pressure. Furthermore, by inhibiting the effects of angiotensin II, TELMACARD-40 also helps to reduce the retention of sodium and water in the body, contributing to its blood pressure-lowering action. Precautions

• Inform your doctor if you are dehydrated or have severe vomiting/diarrhea.

• Avoid use during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, as it can harm the fetus.
• Monitor potassium levels regularly, especially if taking potassium supplements or potassium-sparing diuretics.
• Use with caution in patients with aortic or mitral valve stenosis, or hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy.
• Avoid concomitant use with ACE inhibitors or Aliskiren in diabetic patients or those with kidney impairment.

Alcohol

CAUTION

Consuming alcohol while taking TELMACARD-40 can increase the blood pressure-lowering effect, leading to dizziness or lightheadedness. It is advisable to limit alcohol intake or avoid it completely.

Pregnancy

TELMACARD-40 is not recommended during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, as it can cause serious harm to the developing baby. Consult your doctor for alternative treatments if you are pregnant or planning to conceive.

Breastfeeding
